About Us

We first discovered the delights of B&Bs when Gerry was serving as a Canadian Naval Exchange Officer from 1978 to 1980 in the Portsmouth area of England. We stayed in many B&Bs & enjoyed the welcoming hospitality of all our hosts.

In 1986, Canal B&B in Fall River, NS, was our first venture into the wonderful world of tourism. With the exception of  a few years during Gerry's last postings to both British Columbia and Bethesda, Maryland, USA, we still continue to greet travelers from all around the world.

When Gerry retired in 1995 we moved to Truro. Ruth is a "born & bred" Bluenoser (Nova Scotian) & Gerry came here from Montreal in 1967 as a Naval Recruit at Cornwallis Base. He refers to himself as a "born-again Bluenoser"! No matter where we have lived, Nova Scotia was always "home". We enjoy helping our guests learn about the flora, fauna, & history of our beloved province. Gerry, qui est bilingue, can easily put on his Tour Guide Hat and give you helpful suggestions of things to see/do during your visit in Nova Scotia. As active, long-time members in the Nova Scotia Bed & Breakfast Association, we can recommend many great B&Bs in all areas of our province.

Ruth likes to decorate for the seasons/holidays whether it is Canada Day, St. Patrick's Day, or blueberry/strawberry time. Having a stained-glass-artist-in-residence makes it easy to brighten up the windows!
